The Tele is a '68 that I purchased at Music World in Latham, NY ("oh the cars go 'round and 'round in Latham circle") in 1969 for $200 new. I took it right home and stuck a couple of PAF humbuckers in it (I wasn't aware of the 250 pot conundrum at the time. That has since been changed). The guitar is a testament to my considerable woodworking skills. The gouge on the top of the lower bout was inflicted by a Craftsman 3/8" drill and a round rasp. I installed it when I stopped using picks and found the fingers of my right hand going numb due to the change in angle of my arm, I guess. Can't have that. About 15 years ago I took the bridge hummer off and replaced it with the original pickup.
The POS Strat is a '73 that I bought from a guy in Oregon for $250 in the mid-80's. I bought it because at the time it was still the cheapest way to get a Strat sound. Now we just take a pill for that. That and so I could set my Tele between sets for slide or various open tunings, and because whammy bars are fun! Last year I stuck an SD Hotrails Strat bridge replacement hummer on it, and a 1 meg pot. What can I say? I'm a humbucker kind of guy! Blows up my blonde BJ real good!
