Stratocasters
On the left is a Strat I built from a Fender Custom Shop neck on a Fender Replacement body with Fender hardware and Seymour Duncan SSL-1 neck and middle pickups and a Van Zandt Blues for the bridge position.
The guitar on the right is a 1976 ash non-tremolo body refinished in Daphne Blue and modified for 4-bolt neck with vintage style WD neck, finished in tinted nitro cellulose lacquer. The pickups are all Van Zandt, Plus for the neck and middle and a Blues for the bridge position.![]()
Stratocasters
The white Strat on the left started out life as a 1962 Strat. It has been rebuilt with a mid-90s Fender 62RI neck, Fender Custom Shop American 50s (now called Custom 54s) pickups. It is refinished in white nitro cellulose lacquer and has a Fender RI pickguard.
The guitar on the right is a temporary combination of a '55 Strat with a '54: because the '55 body is needs refinishing, I've "temporarily" swapped it for a '54 body that is in need of a lot of neck work. The guitar is all '55 except for the neck and middle pickups, which are '56 and the pickup covers and knobs which I believe were replaced in the late 50s.![]()
Stratocaster & Telecaster
The black Strat on the left is my first electric guitar, a Strat built in the first couple months of 1965 which I bought "used" in March 1966 for $200. It was originally sunburst. The nitro cellulose black finish was done by me in the 80s. It has sunk in and checked quite a bit. The pickguard was replaced in 1970. There was a terribly large route in the center of the guitar which was painstakingly repaired by a luthier before refinishing. The bridge pickup was rewound by Lindy Fralin in 1994.
The guitar on the right is a 1954 Tele that has quite a few replacement parts: the bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan STL-1 (Vintage 54 Lead); the pickguard is a Fender bakelite replacement from the late 80s which I lacquered; the tuners are nickel plated Fenders from 1984; the neckplate is recent (the serial number is on the bridge). The clear "finish" is very old and quite rough but it has turned such a nice honey color that I can't bear to change it. The neck pickup, knobs and control plate and bridge are original. The neck is inititialed by Tadeo Gomez and has a large soft-V shape and needs its original frets replaced soon.
